Types of Solar Power for Your Company

Haller Enterprises specializes in both Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems and Solar Thermal systems for commercial use.

Solar PV uses solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity which can be used for your business. The primary savings with Solar PV is a significant savings on your monthly utility bills. In fact, if your system is tied into the grid, you may actually end up selling power back to the utility company.

Solar Thermal, otherwise known as Solar Water Heating, is a great way to reduce the energy costs for your business. Solar collectors can actually reduce the amount of electricity or gas used for water heating up to 60 percent per year.

Investing in solar power is a considerable monetary decision and is not to be taken lightly. However there are options to help with the cost of installing a solar power system.

Federal Tax Incentives

    Federal tax credits are available for purchases made through December 31, 2016. Eligible products include solar energy systems, solar water heaters and geothermal heat pumps. You may be eligible for credits that can save you up to 30% of your total upfront costs.

SREC’s

    A solar renewable energy credit (SREC) is equal to 1,000 kWh of solar electricity. Your solar array will produce many SRECs and they can be sold to electricity suppliers to meet their Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) requirements. Pennsylvania is an SREC state, which means that the RPS requires electricity suppliers to secure a portion of their electricity from solar generators. Your business can recoup some of the costs of installation just by selling your SREC's to the electric utility companies.

Solar power purchase agreements

    A solar power purchase agreement (PPA) is often used with larger solar arrays. The PPA requires your business to pay for the power you consume and not for the equipment used to produce it. A third party investor group pays Haller Enterprises to install the equipment on your building at no charge, but maintains ownership of it. A PPA is different from a solar lease, because it doesn’t require you to pay a fixed rate for the use of the equipment; instead you only pay for the energy produced by the system at a predetermined, discounted rate. The company will also provide maintenance to you at no cost.
